Eight Days Kilimanjaro Marangu Route

Eight days with a six-day Marangu Route sample ascent including an extra acclimatisation day, using mountain huts.

The suggested journey

Days to remember.

Moshi area · Kilimanjaro

Original sample itinerary — not a confirmed package. Day order, camps, travel times, flights, activities and prices need verification. Hut availability and seasonal conditions must be confirmed.

DAY 01Arrive near Kilimanjaro

Arrive and transfer to a Moshi-area stay at the foot of the mountain. Attend a proposed pre-climb briefing and kit check with your guide. Operator, guide qualifications and equipment standards must be confirmed in writing before booking.

Suggested overnight: Moshi area · property to confirm

DAY 02Begin the Kilimanjaro ascent

Register at the park gate and walk through montane forest to the first camp or hut. The pace is deliberately slow. The exact gate, walking time and sleeping altitude depend on the route confirmed in your proposal.

Suggested overnight: Kilimanjaro · mountain camp or hut to confirm

DAY 03Climbing through changing zones

Continue upwards through heath, moorland or alpine desert depending on the route. Walk steadily, drink regularly and tell your guide about any symptoms. Daily distances and camps vary by route and schedule.

DAY 04Climbing through changing zones

Continue upwards through heath, moorland or alpine desert depending on the route. Walk steadily, drink regularly and tell your guide about any symptoms. Daily distances and camps vary by route and schedule.

Suggested overnight: Kilimanjaro · mountain camp or hut to confirm

DAY 05Approach high camp

A shorter, cold and exposed day towards high camp. Rest early and prepare for the summit attempt. Guides should check every climber’s condition before deciding whether to continue.

Suggested overnight: Kilimanjaro · high camp to confirm

DAY 06Summit attempt and descent

Start before dawn towards the crater rim and, conditions permitting, Uhuru Peak. Then descend to a lower camp. A summit is never guaranteed; turning back for weather or health is the correct decision.

Suggested overnight: Kilimanjaro · lower camp to confirm

DAY 07Descend to Moshi

Walk down through the forest to the exit gate and transfer to a Moshi-area stay to rest and recover. Gratuity guidance and porter welfare arrangements should be clarified in advance.

Suggested overnight: Moshi area · property to confirm

DAY 08A final morning and onward travel

Enjoy a relaxed start before your confirmed transfer or flight. The final route depends on camp location and your onward ticket; leave sufficient connection time. Any additional overnight required will be priced separately.

Suggested overnight: No overnight proposed · onward arrangements to confirm

What the quote should cover.

These are proposed categories to discuss, not guaranteed inclusions. Only the itemised final quote defines what you are paying for.

Proposed inclusions

  • Accommodation for the itinerary nights in an agreed room category
  • Safari guiding and vehicle arrangements specified in the final quote
  • Park and conservation entry charges expressly listed in the final quote
  • Meals and transfers only where itemised in the confirmed programme

Excluded unless quoted

  • International flights unless specifically quoted
  • Visas, entry requirements and personal travel insurance
  • Gratuities, personal purchases and meals not listed
  • Optional activities, domestic flights and special arrangements unless explicitly included

Before you decide.

Are these confirmed packages?

No. These are original sample routes, not an availability promise. The final proposal must identify properties, transport, permitted activities, inclusions, prices and any changes.

Can we change the route or pace?

Yes, the concept can be used as a planning starting point. A change may affect travel times, park fees, flight connections and lodging availability; all arrangements must be rechecked.

Will we see the migration or the Big Five?

No sighting can be guaranteed. Wildlife moves freely, weather influences seasonal patterns and river crossings cannot be scheduled.

How are costs confirmed?

A personalised quote is required. Travel dates, party size, room types, camp locations, flights and current fees all affect the total. No sample price is presented as a verified Serenity rate.
